The History of Compass Point Bible Church

Welcome!  We are delighted that you have chosen to explore Compass Point through our website.  Whether you are new to Compass Point or you are already part of the Compass Point family you will find a wealth of information here.  If we can be of any service to you or your family  please do not hesitate to contact us

Compass Point Bible Church is a wonderful blending of followers of Christ from a diverse background of several specific historic churches along with individuals from multiple denominational and non-religious backgrounds. While our roots originate with the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada and we continue in this affiliation, we do reflect a non-denominational or interdenominational ethos.

Brant Bible Church began in the early 1920’s and was an early member of the Associated Gospel Churches in Canada. It went through several cycles of moderate growth, plateau, and decline until the 1970’s. However, throughout the 1970’s Brant experienced an invigoration of life and vision. The worship centre was moved from Brant Street to Eaglesfield Drive. From the early 1980’s Brant has experienced a steady growth. In the mid 1990’s Brant’s growth and vision lead to the multiplication of worship services as well as the planting of Grindstone Valley Bible Church. In 2000 Brant planted another church, Tapestry. Brant Bible Church was known for its vision, theological stability, and excellence in ministry programming.

Park Bible Church began in 1953 and has known only two senior pastors. Park’s initial ministry home was in Aldershot and throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s became a leading church on the Canadian landscape. In 1989 the ministry was moved to a strategic location on Kerns Road and continued to enjoy significant growth and influence. Community outreach and a yearly Christian Education conference called Equip became key features of Park Bible Church. Leadership issues and financial constraints led to a season of difficulty and decline in the early 2000’s.

In the spring of 2004 Brant Bible Church and Park Bible Church began discussing the possibility of entering into a strategic ministry partnership. The result has been the creation of Compass Point Bible Church. Compass Point is both a new ministry entity, as well as a ministry having history, stability, and resources of all kinds. In the summer of 2007 Grace Chapel of Oakville was grafted into the Compass Point environment with the view to establishing a Compass Point presence in Oakville in the future. In the summer of 2008, Ellis Avenue Bible Church of Hamilton joined Compass Point to support an ongoing gospel presence in East Hamilton with the establishment of a Compass Point campus.

There is a strong sense that these recent mergers and partnerships have been ordained of God and that God is positioning Compass Point to expand its influence and engagement in service opportunities in our region. Thus, we find ourselves seeking to leverage our size, our resources, our campuses, and our multi-site identity to offer the hope of the Gospel and its attending transformational impact.
